Vimeria Jewellery

I first discovered Vimeria, a cool Canadian jewellery brand, about five years ago when I purchased a pair of classic hoop earrings. They were designed by the brand’s founder, Anna Laskin, and crafted using 14-karat-gold. They looked more expensive than their price points and I recently discovered they’re no longer available – not because they’re sold out, but because Anna shifted gears.

Jewellery designer and Vimeria founder Anna Laskin in her studio, which is located just outside of Vancouver.

“Even though I designed those hoops, they were manufactured abroad and that never sat well with me,” she says. “Since then, I’ve restarted the brand. I now handmake every piece of jewellery in my studio. I source materials locally and use infinitely recyclable sterling silver, which mostly comes from within Canada.”

While the gold is gone, the new silver pieces are just as compelling and have the same subtle vintage quality of the original designs. Anna says, “Silver is a very warm metal. As soon as you put a silver piece on, it feels warm on the body. It’s also quite a soft metal, and I love how it shows wear. It really becomes a part of you and develops a patina over time.”

I opted for the Meer Drops earrings. They’re pretty sterling-silver pendants with lapis lazuli beads and a nostalgic vintage vibe.

My Meer drops. I love the variegated shades of blue and how the posts are also crafted from sterling silver.

! also indulged in a Dale bracelet, a cool chain-link number with a sculptural toggle closure. Anna tells me that Taine, the necklace version of my bracelet, is the current best-seller, and it’s next on my wish list.

My Dale bracelet which Anna says was inspired by organic forms and aerial views.

There is much to love about Vimeria’s commitment to locality, sustainability and quality. I find it reassuring to know that Anna sits in her studio and sets about making each piece intentionally and by hand – it really is quite special. And, on top of all this thoughtfulness, it’s also just the prettiest jewellery.
